February in the Keys: The Seafood Festival Locals Actually Show Up For

February is when the Keys are fully occupied. Snowbirds at maximum strength, every restaurant in Islamorada quoting an hour wait, and US-1 doing its best impression of a parking lot on Friday afternoons. We complain about it and then secretly admit the weather this month is about as good as it gets anywhere on Earth.

Here is what is worth leaving the house for in February 2026.

1. Florida Keys Seafood Festival (Feb 14 to 15)

This is the big one, and yes, it is worth the drive to Key West. The 20th annual Florida Keys Seafood Festival takes over Truman Waterfront Park Saturday 11am to 8pm and Sunday 11am to 5pm. Ten bucks at the gate.

What makes it different from every other seafood festival: it is run by the commercial fishing industry itself. The people selling you peel-and-eat Key West pinks and stone crab claws are the people who caught them. Proceeds go to sustainable fisheries work and scholarships for local kids, which is why you will see half of Stock Island there.

• Local Tip: Get in the shrimp line early. It looks long and it is, but it moves. And parking at Truman Waterfront is genuinely painless compared to anything near Duval.

2. Old Island Days Art Festival (Feb 21 to 22)

Same park, one week later. This is the oldest art show in the Keys, a juried fine-art festival with 100+ artists, and it is a real step up from the usual tourist art fair. Locals actually buy pieces here.

• Local Tip: It lands right after Presidents' Day week, so Old Town will still be busy. Bike in if you can.

3. The Darkest Skies of the Year (Feb 16 to 22)

Astronomy nerds already know: the Winter Star Party returns to Scout Key this week, drawing 500+ telescope people to some of the darkest skies on the East Coast. It is registration-only, but here is why you should care anyway.

New-moon week in February means the best stargazing of the year for everyone. Drive out to Bahia Honda or the old Seven Mile Bridge after 10pm, kill the headlights, and give your eyes twenty minutes. The Milky Way does the rest. Free show, no line, no admission.

4. Spanish Fly Music Festival (Feb 1)

Today, actually, if you are reading this the morning it goes up. Boondocks on Ramrod Key (MM 27) hosts a one-day trop rock fundraiser honoring the late Capt. Jose Wejebe, with proceeds supporting veterans and local families. Very Lower Keys, very locals-and-boaters crowd.

5. For the Fishing Families: Keys Kids Sailfish Tournament (Feb 13 to 14)

Free tournament for anglers under 16 out of Islamorada, timed to peak sailfish season. Even if your kids do not fish, the weigh-ins are a genuinely fun small-town scene.

The February Short List

• Morada Way Art Walk (Thu, Feb 19, 6 to 9pm): Islamorada's monthly gallery night. Grab a beer at Florida Keys Brewing Co. after, like everyone else.
• Eat stone crab now. Season runs to May 1, but February claws are the sweet spot. Keys Fisheries in Marathon, mustard sauce, done.
• Last call for lobster: regular spiny lobster season closes March 31. If a restaurant has fresh lobster on special this month, order it.

One honest warning: Valentine's Day and Presidents' Day land on the same weekend this year (Feb 14 to 16). Book dinner now or embrace the tiki bar. See you out there.
