Key West Songwriters Festival

April 29 @ 12:00 pmMay 3 @ 11:00 pm

The Key West Songwriters Festival 2026 marks a major milestone as the 30th anniversary of the world’s largest festival of its kind. For five days, the island transforms into “Nashville by the Sea,” where the hidden faces behind your favorite radio hits take center stage to perform their songs and tell the stories of how they were written.

Festival Dates: April 29 – May 3, 2026

This festival is famous for its “in-the-round” performances, where 3–4 songwriters sit on stage together, swapping songs and secrets in an intimate, storyteller format.

2026 Milestone Highlights

Since it is the 30th anniversary, organizers are planning enhanced versions of their traditional staple events.

Kick-Off Party Wed, April 29 Usually held at Ocean Key Resort’s Sunset Pier, featuring high-energy performances as the sun dips.
Intimate Theater Shows April 30 – May 1 Ticketed, sit-down performances at the Key West Theater and the historic San Carlos Institute.
Sloppy Joe’s Spotlights May 1 & May 3 The legendary bar hosts multi-hour “spotlight” rounds featuring rising stars and veteran hitmakers.
Main Stage Block Party Sat, May 2 A massive, free outdoor concert that shuts down a portion of Duval Street for a headlining performance.

What to Expect

The “Next Big Thing”: This festival is a notorious career launcher. Past performers who played the festival before they were famous include Kacey Musgraves, Luke Combs, Maren Morris, and Florida Georgia Line. You are likely watching tomorrow’s Grammy winners.

Intimacy & Access: Unlike massive stadium concerts, you might find yourself sitting two feet away from a songwriter who has written five #1 hits. It’s common to see the artists hanging out at the local bars between their sets.

A Mix of Genres: While heavily rooted in Country and Americana, the festival also features Pop, Rock, and Blues writers, reflecting the diverse landscape of modern songwriting.

The Venues: Music happens everywhere—from the beaches and hotel pools to tiny coffee shops and hidden garden courtyards.

Pro-Tips for 2026

Free vs. Ticketed: Over 50 of the shows are completely free and open to the public (like the Duval Street block party). However, the premier theater shows and sunset sails require tickets and sell out almost instantly when they go on sale in early spring.

Stay Centrally: Because venues are scattered across Old Town, staying near Duval Street or the Historic Seaport allows you to walk or bike between sets easily.

The “Key West Round”: Don’t just go for the headliners. The best “magic” often happens in the mid-afternoon rounds at smaller bars like Smokin’ Tuna or The Blue Heaven, where the storytelling is most raw.
